Amur Leopard : Critically Endangered
Guangzhou International Finance Center : 438.6m, Guangzhou, China
Also known as the Far East leopard, Manchurian leopard, and Korean leopard, the Amur leopard is mostly found in alpine forests. The leopard was once widely distributed to the Korean Peninsula, northeastern China, and far eastern Russia. It is estimated that some 60 individuals survive in Primorskij, Russia and that seven to twelve individuals are scattered in adjacent regions in northeastern China. A few individuals survive in alpine regions in North Korea, but the Amur leopard has already died out in South Korea. Being an apex predator, the leopard is able to adapt to a changing environment as long as it has adequate access to prey. However, because of loss of habitat and decline in prey, the leopard is now endangered. A leopard is occasionally shot on a farm in search of prey. It is poached for its fur and body parts to be used for ingredients in medicines.
